I’m the founder of Creating Your Balance Counselling Therapy, offering in‑person counselling in Dartmouth and secure virtual therapy across most Canadian provinces. With over 30 years of experience in mental health and addictions, I support adults, couples, and families who are seeking meaningful change, emotional balance, and a more grounded way of moving through life.

I’m especially passionate about men’s mental health. Many men carry stress, anger, relationship challenges, and emotional overwhelm quietly. My role is to create a space where men feel respected, understood, and supported in ways that feel practical and empowering.

Professional Background

My career spans community, healthcare, and family‑support settings, including:

Mental Health & Addictions (Nova Scotia Health)

Youth and family services (Department of Community Services / Opportunities & Social Development)

Halifax Regional Centre for Education

Adult rehabilitation and community support programs

Foster parenting and family support services

Psycho‑educational and therapeutic group facilitation

This diverse background allows me to work effectively with clients navigating anxiety, depression, addiction, stress, relationship difficulties, anger, and major life transitions.

Counselling Approach

My style is client‑centred, collaborative, and practical. I believe people are the experts in their own lives, and therapy works best when clients feel respected, heard, and supported.

I integrate several evidence‑based approaches, including:

Solution‑Focused Therapy (SFT)

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Behavioural Family Therapy (BFT)

Structured Relapse Prevention (SRP)

Sessions are tailored to your goals and may focus on emotional regulation, communication, coping strategies, relationship strengthening, or developing healthier patterns of thinking and behaviour.

Areas of Focus

I support adults, couples, and families experiencing:

Anxiety, stress, and overwhelm

Depression and low mood

Anger and emotional regulation

Men’s mental health and identity

Relationship and communication challenges

Addiction and relapse prevention

Life transitions and major changes

Family dynamics and conflict

A Collaborative Approach to Growth

Counselling isn’t about “fixing” people — it’s about helping you reconnect with your strengths, understand your experiences, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, navigating a life transition, or simply looking for a supportive space to talk, therapy can help you build balance, resilience, and well‑being.

Hey! I’m Rob, and I will accepting clients as a student counsellor beginning in September 2026. As I begin the next steps of my education and development as a helper, my intention is to create a warm, inviting and safe space for you to express the issues and concerns that brought you to seek counselling. Taking a client-centred approach, I believe we know ourselves best and as such, my job will be to witness what is pressing for you during our sessions with empathy and compassion. Together, we can explore what feels right for you and collaborate on the ways in which better calm, stability, hope and peace of mind can be found. My training to date has given me practice with modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Solutions-Focused Therapy, which can provide useful tools to help us on our journey. My aim is to build a genuine rapport, a human-to-human connection without judgment, only a desire to help you feel heard, understood, and supported as we work together toward the changes that matter most to you. I look forward to meeting you and learning how I can best support you on your counselling journey!

Greg brings over 20 years of experience supporting youth and adults through challenging life transitions. His background includes extensive work in community‑based and non‑profit organizations, helping clients navigate education, mental health, justice, and social service systems with clarity and confidence.

Greg played a key role in implementing a provincial youth program that became a model for other service providers across Nova Scotia. Through this work, he developed strong relationships within health, education, and social systems — allowing him to offer practical, solution‑focused strategies that truly support clients’ needs.

He has supported individuals referred from families, community organizations, and programs such as:

Greg’s clinical focus includes anxiety, grief, depression, emotional regulation, identity, relationships, executive functioning, and life transitions. He currently works full‑time as a therapist supporting autistic and neurodivergent adults across Nova Scotia.

Greg’s approach is affirming, culturally responsive, and grounded in understanding each person’s lived experience. He has worked extensively with youth (16–24), LGBTQ+, African Nova Scotian/Black communities, immigrants/newcomers, and individuals facing systemic barriers. He believes the therapeutic relationship is central to building trust and creating meaningful change.

Using a strength‑based, trauma‑informed, client‑centred approach, Greg helps clients reconnect with their abilities, insights, and resilience. He works collaboratively to develop goals, strategies, and practices that support a more balanced, hopeful, and empowered life.
